san lorenzo creek stabilization

Winter Storms caused the 40’ high creek embankment along the San Lorenzo Creek in Hayward to fail. This failure was endangering the houses above the slope. WCD worked with Granite Construction to come up with an access and construction sequencing plan to safely do the work and not harm the existing houses above adjacent to the top of slope. The work consisted of mass excavation, install 32 each W16 x 89 x 35’ steel beams in 30” drilled shafts with structural and lean concrete, along with 10 each 30” x 20’ secant piles, 29 each 240 Kip Tieback Anchors x 70’ long with 10’ – 18’ high pressure treated wood lagging to retain the slope.
