Stern Grove

A broken waterline running below Sloat Boulevard in San Francisco caused a steep 120’ high slope along the edge of the roadway and above Stern Park to erode and become unstable. An existing 63” high pressure sewer line was exposed and it needed to be stabilized ASAP. WCD worked with Anvil to come up with an access and construction sequencing plan to safely do the work and not harm the existing sewer line in the slope. The work consisted of mass excavation, install 28 each W16 x 89 x 35’ steel beams in 30” drilled shafts with structural and lean concrete, 26 each 192 Kip Tieback Anchors x 75’ long with 10’ – 14’ high shotcrete lagging to retain the slope.
